Brass Department Chair and Conductor Larry Isaacson invited me to perform this short and exciting solo with the Boston Conservatory Brass Ensemble in October 2024. I feel like this quirky and expressive piece suits me well!

I had the pleasure of working with composition student TJ Milne on his piece "before; Icarus" for the Composers Recital Series. Trombonist Mikayla Frank-Martin and I committed to learning this duet, which features a complex rhythmic scheme and extended techniques. Milne’s score includes a notation system for seven distinct sound-producing mouth techniques and three ‘filtering’ sounds, one requiring the player to aim their bell into an aluminum foil sheet for a metallic rattle. The score ends with the players disassembling their instruments to explore fundamental tonguing and breathing mechanisms. The rehearsal process was daunting but rewarding, teaching us about working in a duo chamber setting and preparing contemporary music.
